After arrival at Mt Victory camp, we will set up tents and take some time to relax and get acquainted with surroundings. Depending on when everyone arrives, we will begin the class in the mid afternoon with an introduction to the class and the instructors, Tom, Matt and Carmen.    From there we will begin working on skills to prepare for our wilderness excursion.  Dinner will be the first meal provided, and each day for the first 3.5 days you will be provided with Breakfast, Dinner and Lunch. Frequently Asked Questions:

What airport should I fly into?

Fly into Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX) in St Croix

Can I arrive early, or stay after the class?

Absolutely.  You are more than welcome to come and stay at Mt Victory Camp before or after the class.  Book your reservation at https://mountvictorycamp.com.  You will need to book your own transportation to or from the airport during those days.  The beach is a 20 minute walk from MVC.

What is the earliest I should book my return flight home?

No earlier than 3pm on the day the class ends.  If that is an issue, please get in touch and we can discuss.

I dont have one of the items on the packing list?  Do you have some to lend out?

Yes, Im happy to help if I can, please get in touch and Ill see what I have.

Do I need any prior experience to come on this trip?

You do not.  Most students have very little experience in survival, and often little in camping.  You will do fine!  While, on some level, this trip is a challenge for everyone, our goal is to let you challenge yourself as much, or as little as you feel comfortable.  If you can run a mile, and hike 5 miles you are plenty capable of coming on this trip.

Can I rent one of the Bungalows during the time at Mount Victory Camp?

Students will be sleeping in tents on the property, which is included in the cost of the class.  If you would like to rent a bungalow, you are more than welcome and can do so on Mt Victory's Website.  Remember we are only at Mt Victory for 4 nights. https://mountvictorycamp.com

I have a medical condition, do you think it is safe to come on this trip?

If you have a medical condition, please consult with your Dr before signing up for the class and make sure that strenuous activities in the sun with little food, at times, is permissable.  Tom McElroy is a nationally certified Wilderness EMT and happy talk with you about any concerns you might have.

What skills will we be learning in the class?

This class is packed with skills that you likely have never done before.  More than just an expedition, this is also a training course designed to make sure you are proficient at primitive island survival by the end of the course.  We will be making primitive shelters, numerous types of friction fire, bone fishooks/fish spears, baskets, primitive pottery, torches, gathering wild edible/medicinal plants, diving, spearing lobster, weaving nets, making coconut milk/oil, trapping, primitive cooking, creating rope from plants, weaving palm sombreros and many many more skills.

Is there cell phone reception at the remote camp?

There is no cell reception while we are in the primitive camp for the 3-day survival challenge.  I will have the ability to send and receive satellite texts during this time.  If you are concerned about a pressing emergency at home I will happily provide you/your family with my contact.

Do I need a passport to get

to St Croix?

St Croix is an American territory.   You do not need a passport if you are from the United States.
